Riyadh Al-Ameri

Deakin University
Senior Lecturer
Melbourne, Australia
Dr Riyadh Al-Ameri is a senior lecturer in Structural Engineering at the School of Engineering/Deakin University since 2010. Riyadh has received his MSc & PhD in Structural Engineering from Cardiff University (UK, 1990). He has more than 25 years of mixed industrial and academic experience. Before joining Deakin, took a senior role with the construction industry in design and consultation space. He has been appointed as Visiting Academic and Honorary Associate at the Civil Engineering Department, Monash University (2005), and as Engineering Manager at international consultant in France (2006-2010). He obtained Endeavor Research Fellowship from the Australian Government (2005) and received Teaching Excellence Awards from Baghdad University (2001) and Deakin University (2012).Al-Ameri’s research focuses on the behavior and strength of composite structures and the structural applications of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP). He investigated the use of CFRP in various structures for strengthening and contributed to the body of knowledge through experimental and theoretical investigations. The outcomes led to a new concept of using softer binder with modified characteristics and improved ductility and was recognized by awarding Honorary Associate position for three years. Currently, he investigates the the long term performance (durability) of Rubber Modified Epoxy with CFRP, and corrosion resistance of composite structures during exposure to marine environment. Also, investigating the retrofitting of composite members using new hybrid technique. Riyadh is a Chartered Structural Engineer and Fellow of Engineers Australia, member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and on the National Engineering register in both Civil and Structural colleges. Published more than sixty papers from his research. Invited speaker and member of the International Scientific committee of several international conferences and current reviewer for six international journals in his field.
